Getting People Interested in Cancer Fundraising
Raising money to fight cancer is one of the biggest challenges that comes with beating this disease. There are plenty of great ideas when it comes to fundraising events, but the problem is getting enough volunteers to run them.
Fundraising in General
Although cancer is a horrid disease, many other illnesses have a bad effect on the quality of life that people have. A good example of this is osteoarthritis of the knee, where in the UK it is estimated that one out of every five people suffers from this. Then, there are other conditions, such as autism. The list goes on and on. Each and every one of these could benefit from fundraising. But, each of these also faces the challenges of getting enough people interested in participating.
Creating Awareness
The first step to getting more volunteers for cancer fundraising is to create awareness. Fortunately, this happens with events such as wearing pink for a day, which is drawing a lot of attention to breast cancer. Events like this can encourage people to do more than participate for one day. It can spur them into volunteering in their local area to run or participate in events throughout the year, so funds can be raised continuously.
Promoting Support Groups
There have been new support groups forming for those who have secondary cancer. Support groups such as the Secondary Sisters could undoubtedly make use of some additional funds to be used in various ways. By people becoming aware of this group, they may be able to donate some of their time to do some fundraising on their behalf. Again it comes down to creating awareness.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Having an entire month to raise awareness of breast cancer is really an opportune time to put some of the focus on getting more volunteers. Most of the attention during this time is for the raising of money. But, if more emphasis was put on getting people to donate their time as well, then the good that this month brings could be stretched into an entire year.
What Can Organizations Do?
Organizations that run fundraising events can plan to put a drive on for volunteers. Often at the last moment, many of these organizations are struggling to find the extra help they need. Or there may be times when they have to cancel a fundraising event because they don’t have the resources to pull it off. Or another circumstance may be that they have to use some of the funds they raise to help pay for the costs of the events.
The Gift of Time
When advertising a fundraising event, the organization can say that they also gladly accept donations of time.
